TREATMENT PROCESS

How does our treatment process work?

Once we have a carried out an assessment of your baby’s head shape we discuss and agree on the best available treatment for you and your family.

  1. If there are no medical or cosmetic concerns:
    • We provide education on repositioning products and/or techniques and would suggest discharge.
  2. If the head shape is not severe for the age of child but there is potential for concern:
    • We would provide education on repositioning and may suggest and provide select preventative products and provide a follow up track the progress of your Childs headshape and another scan within 3 weeks of your initial consultation.
  3. If the head shape asymmetry requires treatment:
    • We would recommend one of our SnugKap Treatment Programs to suit you and your families needs.

When can my baby start treatment?

The Optimum time for intervention is 3 – 6 months
however infants can be treated up to the age of 18 months providing their cranial sutures are still open.

  • We would refer for a SnugKap Helmet if the skull deformity is moderate to severe.
  • Mild deformities should be documented and monitored
  • Ideal SnugKap treatment results are achieved when infants begin treatment before six months of age when the skull is rapidly growing.
  • The SnugKap Helmet is best prescribed during the 1st year of life, but can be used on infants up to 18 months of age

Treatment of plagiocephaly with a cranial remolding orthosis (CRO) How does it work?

Cranial Remolding Orthoses (CRO) encourage the skull to become symmetrical and/or proportional by holding areas we don’t want to grow and promote growth into the void areas. The CRO’s do not squeeze the babies head into shape rather provide space for the flattened area of the skull to grown into. Cranial remolding orthoses derive their name from their purpose — symmetry through active remolding
